Assist Me collects gently used wheelchairs and other essential mobility-related medical equipment, and gift it to uninsured and underinsured Charlotteans. Volunteers help prepare the equipment for donation.
Carolina Refugee Resettlement Agency‘s mission is to receive, to connect and to empower newly arrived refugees in the Charlotte area so that they begin successful and self-sufficient lives in the United States. CROSS groups help sort donations and set up new apartments.
Charlotte Prayer Room is a fueling station for the city’s spiritually hungry and serves as a resource for churches. They use creative & culturally relevant means to instigate movements of prayer, mission, & justice. CROSS groups will visit the Charlotte Prayer Room to engage with the prayer stations and have a conversation about prayer with a staff member.
Baby Bundles seeks to provide newborn essentials to families in financial need in the Charlotte area, helping them get a positive start with their baby. CROSS groups will sort clothing and baby items in the warehouse.
Beds for Kids seeks to provide a bed and other essential furniture to every child and family in need in Charlotte. CROSS groups will assist in the warehouse, sorting, cleaning, and assembling furniture.
Charlotte Rescue Mission is a faith-based residential recovery programs that help people struggling with the disease of addiction achieve long-term sobriety, find financial stability and stable housing, and build healthy relationships.
Classroom Central empowers students and teachers by providing supplies and resources through their Free Store, Mobile Free Store, and several other community-supported programs. CROSS groups will be making flashcards and notes for elementary students or sorting supplies at the donation center.
Crisis Assistance Ministry is a wide-reaching ministry that provides rent assistance, medical aid and referrals, free furniture, and clothing. CROSS groups will help with sorting, folding, and hanging clothes for the store which is free for CAM’s clients.
Diaper Bank seeks to ensure that families with babies and children living with poverty have an adequate supply of diapers. CROSS groups will work in the warehouse, sorting and bundling diapers for families.
Freedom Communities serves as the connective tissue, bringing together those who live, work and pray along the Freedom Drive Corridor. This approach allows them to equip families with the tools and practices to drive upward mobility and sustained economic stability.
Furnish for Good connects well-loved home furnishings to underserved communities through an experience of empowerment. Rather than simply donating the items, Furnish for Good curates and showcases them so that recipients receive more than home furnishings – they receive self-respect and dignity.
Habitat for Humanity-Charlotte Region seeks to put God’s love into action and bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat works in partnership with homeowners, volunteers, and the community at large to achieve its mission of strengthening neighborhoods by providing low-income families with safe, decent, and affordable housing.
The Harvest Center is, above all, a community of Christ-followers who believe in a brighter world full of possibilities for everyone. It is a place that helps the situationally homeless at every step in their journey – the center for support, renewal, and peace. We believe that everyone deserves love, support and compassion. Sometimes, all someone really needs is a helping hand to get out of a bad situation, and we strive every day to be that hand up to someone in need.
Hope Haven is a Therapeutic Community that provides a foundation of recovery for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder, so they can build healthy and independent lives. CROSS groups will serve on the Hope Haven campus in various ways throughout the summer.
Hospitality House is a non-profit service that enables families to stay close to their loved ones in the hospital without the emotional or financial stress of finding suitable lodging or making long commutes. They provide a comfortable bed, hot meals, and a quiet place to relax. CROSS groups will assist in maintenance to facility/grounds.
LifeSpan works every day with individuals of all ages and differing abilities, helping them experience the “precious ordinary” of life. Their mission and passion is to illuminate the abilities of children and adults with disabilities by providing education, employment, and enrichment opportunities to live, work, and play in their communities throughout their lifetimes.
MedAssist is a non-profit pharmacy program providing access to lifesaving prescription medications, client support, advocacy, and other services to poor, vulnerable, and uninsured North Carolina residents. CROSS groups will sort medications.
Moore Place (Roof Above) is a Housing First community that recognizes a fundamental right to housing, no matter what a person’s mental health condition, physical disability, or addiction may be. The idea is to get people into housing first, and then work on the issues that need attention in order to help the person stay housed. Moore Place serves 85 formerly homeless individuals. CROSS groups will share social time with residents, including playing board games or doing arts and crafts.
Nourish Up Two long-standing non-profits with a rich history of fighting hunger, Loaves & Fishes and Friendship Trays, joined forces with a new name, Nourish Up. Lifting up our community through food, we provide groceries to our neighbors in need in Mecklenburg County through the largest network of food pantries in North Carolina, grocery home delivery, and delivering healthy meals each weekday through our Meals on Wheels program.
Project 658 is a Christ-centered ministry providing services for at-risk families in Charlotte, moving them toward sustainability, with a key focus on the international and refugee communities. CROSS groups play games and eat lunch with children in the summer camp program.
Day Services Center (Roof Above) serves both individuals who are currently or formerly experiencing homelessness through their soup kitchen, emergency shelter, substance use treatment program, and permanent supportive housing. CROSS groups will participate in an educational simulation and make sandwiches for the Operation Sandwich program.
Samaritan’s Feet provides shoes to children and adults in the U.S. and around the world. CROSS groups will spend time within the warehouse preparing shoes for shipment.
Supportive Housing Communities provides affordable housing to alleviate homelessness and human suffering. Supportive housing is a best practice for serving chronically homeless individuals and families. SHC helps community residents find safe homes in the community.
Trips for Kids provides bicycles and educational resources to underserved youth through their Earn-A-Bike program, Ride program, and their Community Bike Shop. CROSS groups will learn to patch a bike tire and spend time cleaning and quality-checking donated bicycles.
