“Out of the Blue” with Colonel Quincy Collins

Join Quincy Collins, church member, POW, and recipient of two Silver Stars and two Purple Hearts, for a reading of several chapters of his memoir, “Out of the Blue.” This will be followed by a discussion and Q and A. Books will be available to purchase and all proceeds will support the Cultivate Capital Campaign.

“This is the extraordinary story of a true American Patriot. Captured by the North Vietnamese and imprisoned for seven and a half years, Quincy used his innate resolve and the outstanding training that led to his qualification as an elite Air Force fighter pilot to face his captors and emerge as an even stronger and more resolute human being. Wounded twice, he was also twice awarded a Silver Star, in addition to his two Purple Hearts.”

The book is a memoir, including his birth in South Carolina, his time as a child and young man in Concord, NC, his years at The Citadel, his early USAF career and shoot-down over North Vietnam, and incarceration for over 7 years at the infamous Hanoi Hilton prison. During his early years at our church, Quincy married one of our members, Catherine Cline in 1980. He sang in the choir, was former Chairman of the Men of the Church, a Deacon at MPPC, and a Steven Minister. Quincy was very active in patriotic organizations and activities in the Charlotte area and was presented the highest civilian award by our governor, THE ORDER OF THE LONG LEAF PINE. He also founded the Carolinas Freedom Foundation 26 years ago and has staged the annual Veterans Day Parade in uptown Charlotte every year since. Quincy currently serves on the Board of Directors of the General Hugh Shelton Leadership Council, headquartered at NCSU in Raleigh.

Books will be sold for $35.00 (cash or check). All proceeds will support the Cultivate Capital Campaign.  If you are not able to be at the event and would like to purchase a book, please email Bryn Miles at bmiles@myersparkpres.org.
