Peace & Justice Committee

The Peace & Justice Committee offers engagement opportunities within our church community to discuss topics where our opinions differ, while assuring that we remain faithful to promoting peace and justice for all.

We also aim to create opportunities for meaningful change within our denomination, community, and the world. We focus on thoughtful, effective, systemic change rather than performative, reactive change.

If you’re interested in joining the Peace & Justice Committee, please email Glenn Boone.

Our Guiding Scripture Passages

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us, abolishing the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near, for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father.

Ephesians 2:13-18

He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

– Micah 6:8

Peace Pole

What’s the Peace Pole?

Myers Park Presbyterian Church has a Peace Pole located in the Circle Drive outside the prayer chapel. Our Peace Pole is a symbol of peace and a gathering place amid unrest. “May Peace Prevail on Earth” is inscribed in English, Spanish, French, and Hebrew. With God’s help, we recognize that peace is both a personal and collective pursuit.

This sacred space is always open for anyone who wishes to spend time in prayer – alone or with others – or to submit prayers to our prayer box, beautifully painted by local artist and church member Caroline Simas.

Together, we continue to seek peace in our hearts and in the world. May peace prevail on earth.
