Lent & Easter
at Myers Park Presbyterian Church
Lenten Worship Series
The Plot Thickens
This Lent, we move slowly and deliberately through the final plot points of Jesus’s life as told in John’s Gospel. We’ll linger with the stories of love, fear, power, and betrayal that lead us to Easter.
Each week invites us deeper into a story from Holy Week, making space for texts we often skim past and emotions we often avoid. Along the way, we are asked to notice where these moments echo our own experiences of loss, uncertainty, and transformation.

Lenten Matching Gift
This Lent, we invite you to support Crisis Assistance Ministry and help meet urgent housing needs through a $150,000 matching gift challenge. We are highlighting the work of Crisis Assistance Ministry as they honor their 50th anniversary. This partnership has long helped individuals and families navigate moments of crisis with an eye toward stability.
The need for emergency assistance has increased sharply, as rising rent and housing costs have driven a 37 percent increase in eviction filings in just the past year, placing 13,000 families at risk. For many households, a single disruption such as a medical bill, a family change, or lost income can put housing in jeopardy. While many factors shape the health of a family and community, stable housing remains foundational.
During Lent, every dollar you give to the dedicated offering will be matched—up to $150,000—through the generosity of the Mulliss Foundation, doubling the impact of your gift. By giving, you help provide direct assistance with rent and utilities so families can remain housed during moments of crisis. Make your dedicated offering gift in the collection plate or online between February 15 and April 7 to have your gift matched.
This matching opportunity will not apply to scheduled pledge payments made during Lent.
Contributions must be made payable to MPPC to be counted in the match.
Matched Giving Begins Wednesday, February 18
The Mulliss Foundation
This $150,000 Lenten matching gift is made possible through an extraordinary legacy left by longtime church members William and Betty Mulliss. Their love for Myers Park Presbyterian Church and its mission continues to shape our ministry in profound ways.
William and Betty established the William F. and Betty G. Mulliss Foundation to support work that reflects their deep faith and commitment to preventing and alleviating human suffering. Through this foundation, their generosity has enabled Myers Park Presbyterian Church to respond faithfully to needs within our community and beyond.
Since the first gift was received in 2019, the Mulliss Foundation has provided more than $2.2 million to MPPC. Through their testamentary gift, William and Betty ensured that their values, faith, and love for this congregation would continue to bear fruit long after their lifetimes, strengthening ministry today and sustaining it for generations to come.
Crisis Assistance Ministry provides expertise in poverty, eviction prevention, financial security, family and child stability, and economic mobility.
Their work is informed by the lived experiences of neighbors earning low wages and confronting complex, systemic barriers to financial stability.
