Love Builds Up

A Home

Mission: The mission of Charlotte Family Housing (CFH) is to empower working families experiencing homelessness to achieve long-term self-sufficiency through shelter, housing, supportive services and advocacy.

Population Served: Working families experiencing homelessness.

History: In 2011, CFH was created when three programs serving homeless families (Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing (W.I.S.H.), Charlotte Emergency Housing and Family Promise) merged to become a single point-of-entry for Charlotte’s homeless families. Since the merger, 91% of families served have successfully maintained permanent housing without subsidies.

Approach: CFH focuses on a shelter-to-housing model, building a family’s strengths and capabilities to move toward self-sufficiency. CFH meets immediate needs by housing qualified families in one of their three temporary shelters before advancing them into permanent housing with supportive services. Services include financial literacy, career guidance, education, health and wellness, and relational volunteer teams for support.
