Mission: Prepare Spanish-speaking children for success in school and life by providing superior dual-language early childhood education.
Population Served: Hispanic children of low-income families.
History:CBP was created in 1999 to address the needs of Hispanic/Latino families in east Charlotte, where many Latino youth were entering school with limited preschool experiences and struggling with severe language barriers. Demand for CBP services has grown along with Charlotte’s Hispanic community, and today CBP operates in shared space with CMS at Hickory Grove Elementary School, doubling their service capacity.
Approach: CBP’s bilingual format allows the students to begin the process of learning English while absorbing basic educational concepts and exploring the arts, sports, science, and more. CBP students’ families are supported with parenting and life skills and English-language classes, enabling them to sustain and nurture their children’s educational and emotional development.
