CrossRoads Corporation for Affordable Housing and Community Development is deeply entwined with the ministry of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Dreamed up and born out of the 2008 Campaign for Deeper Discipleship, CrossRoads took the church’s existing emphasis on community development in Grier Heights to new levels. At its helm was Don Gately, who has served for the past 11 years as Executive Director, leveraging his background in leadership, finance, real estate, and business management to engage and advocate for the residents of the neighborhood.

CrossRoads has been recognized locally as well as state-wide as a model for community-based development. Since its inception in 2008, it received approximately $10.5 million in funding through cash donations and in-kind contributions as well as foundation and government grants. Of that total, about $3,935,000 has come from MPPC for both general operating support and contributions restricted to specific programs. The team Don has curated during his tenure has built effective partnerships operating over 20 programs and services benefitting Grier Heights residents. This unique approach to community revitalization resulted in CrossRoads’ recent recognition by Leading on Opportunity as a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Champion for its dedicated commitment to building economic mobility for children and families in Grier Heights.

Through all the years of working at CrossRoads, Don has always exhibited energy, enthusiasm, charm, and a genuine love of people. His commitment to CrossRoads and its mission has been infectious to those who have served in volunteer roles on the board and through various programs. Though he will be greatly missed, Don is retiring having helped create deep, sustainable partnerships with residents and organizations in Grier Heights.
