The books have been selected and I hope you are planning to dive into some great reading! We meet at 12:30 pm at Myers Park Presbyterian Church to discuss the book. If you are able to read the book but not join us live for the discussion, I hope you will join me on-line via the church blog.
I’m often asked how I choose the books. Honestly, it’s complicated! Throughout the year I make notes about books when I hear about them. I follow several reviewers (Maureen Corrigan of NPR, the NY Times Book review, etc.) and I check out what books are winning awards. Early in the summer I create a massive spreadsheet of all the titles, with info on genre, number of pages, and number of stars in reader reviews. My “rules” – we only read novels, we won’t read whatever EVERYBODY else is reading, and we will stretch ourselves to read things we wouldn’t normally choose. I like to vary genres, push cultural boundaries, and encourage thought.
Here is the list for 2018-19. Get busy reading!
